Setting up my Stall at the Otaki Market - marquee

The Otaki Market is a busy market on the main highway, opposite New World. We have a mix of art & craft,  plants, clothing, garden art, jewellery, vintage and collectables, produce and food stalls and trucks.

We have two sections to the Otaki Market, the Grass Area, which is 80% covered in shady green trees, and has no car access. The Car Park area has a selection of car sites (which are generally pre-booked well in advance) and non-car sites. There is limited shade on the car park.

Below is a helpful guide for using a marquee or a Food truck at the Ōtaki Market: Food Trucks I Marquees I No Marquee I Sun Umbrellas

Foodtrucks

We completely understand that Food trucks and stalls come in all shapes and sizes and have accommodated for this in the Food zone section on the carpark area.

I don't have a Marquee

You don't have to have a marquee to be part of the Otaki Market.  When making your booking request (click here), there is an option to let us know if you are bringing a marquee. This is great information; it helps us determine where we can place you on the market site.

Grass Area

If you don't have a marquee, we generally like to put you on the grass area underneath all the lovely green and shady trees. Although when we are busy, this is not always an option.

Carpark Area

There is very limited shade on the carpark area, and those sites with shade are generally booked for our regular stall holders on a permanent basis.  We can not guarantee you any shade.

Top Tip: We recommend a pop-up marquee; you can purchase these for under $150 from Bunnings Warehouse or other similar retailers.

I’ll be bringing a Marquee

When making your booking request on our website (click here), there is an option to let us know if you are bringing a marquee. This is great information; it helps us determine where we can place you on the market site. Please remember to secure your marquee correctly, if your Marquee blows away and hits someone or causes damage, you’re responsible.

Grass Area

You can generally fit a marquee on any site space on the grass area.

  • Please secure your marquee with either tent pegs or leg weights. If you are near the fence, you can use bungees to secure the back of your marquee, and leg weights for the front.

  • You will not be able to use tent ties which extend out the front of your marquee, as this causes a trip hazard for customers and visitors.

  • There is no vehicle access to the grass area, you will be required to park around the edge and carry your equipment and stock a very short distance to your site.

Top Tip: Please ensure the marquee you are bringing fits within the site booking you have made, sites are 3x3 or 3x6.

Carpark Area

  • You will need to secure your marquee with leg weights, the ground is too hard for pegs.

  • If you have a car park space, you can secure the back half of your marquee to your car and the front of the marquee with leg weights.

  • If you are in a non-car park space, you will need to use leg weights to secure your marquee.

  • If you are near the fence on the main roadside, you can use bungee cords to secure the back half of your marquee to the fence and leg weights for the front.

Top Tip: If you are bringing a marquee which requires manual assembly, please factor this into your set up time.

Can I use a Sun/Picnic Umbrella?

Some of our stall holders use Sun / Picnic umbrellas as shade on the carpark and grass area. You can use a sun or picnic umbrella with a strong solid base, and the base is inside your stall space and will not cause a trip hazard for customers.

Top Tip: Umbrellas have a limited life span for an outdoor market. They are good for a short period of time.  When it’s windy, they can often be damaged.
